Paddy Gower is warning Labour that they should be concerned as polling paints a dark picture for many MPs who got in during the "red wave".
Appearing on AM, Gower and Newstalk ZB's senior political correspondent Barry Soper discussed Labour's recent dive in the opinion polls.
A Newshub-Reid Research poll on Monday found the party had dropped to 26.8 percent, down 5.5 percent from the last poll. Meanwhile, National was up 4.3 percent to 40.9 percent of the vote.
Soper said when parties get into the 20 percent range, there's no "real coming back from that".
Gower said Labour is at risk of losing big names on their list from Parliament following the "red wave" of the 2020 election. The Labour Party currently holds 64 seats in Parliament.
"If I was Labour right now, I would be so worried about how much support they are going to haemorrhage and how many people they're going to lose," Gower said.
He said they need momentum in an elections and voter turnout is crucial for Labour's results.
"When Labour starts to crash into the 20s they can go a lot deeper if it means they don't have the energy to turn out the vote," he said.
"Is it going to be another classic Labour collapse because all of the ingredients are there for them right now."
But it's not all doom and gloom for the Labour Government.
Soper noted the polling can be off, pointing out how back in 2002 polling on election day had National at 20 percent of the vote but ended up one percent off Labour's result.
"Chippy there's hope," Soper said.
