It's official: parking requirements are history
When Council passed a resolution in June asking city staff to draw up an ordinance eliminating minimum off-street parking requirements, supporters greeted it with a mix of jubilation and caution. Staff's historic preference for complexity over simplicity loomed large. How were they gonna screw this up?
Ultimately, it probably took longer than it needed to, but the ordinance staff came back with was about as simple as requested. Property owners are only required to provide handicapped parking spaces. There is no longer any minimum required amount of parking besides that.
