Thinking about boosting your brand through podcasts? Welcome 👋 | Host of the B2B Marketers Can Laugh podcast 🎙️ | mediocre tennis player | Texan living in Romania

1 question I always get asked as a podcast host: “How much does it cost to create a podcast?” The costs to produce a quality podcast episode can run into the thousands. When you factor in: -       Host fees -       Tools utilized -       Audio engineer/editor -       Marketer for the distribution -       Graphic designer for the artwork -       Copy writer for the show title/description But I found a way to be a little resourceful and keep costs to a minimum. Otherwise, I couldn’t run my show as I finance it out of my own pocket. Broken out, the monthly costs to run my podcast are: -       Virtual assistant ~ $48 -       Podpage (website) ~ $15 -       Sound/video editor ~ $200 -       Riverside (recording tool) ~ $13 -       Descript (use to make clips) ~ $15 -       Buzzsprout (podcast distribution) ~ $12 So, roughly $250 for assistance and another $55 for tools. There’s a lot of costs that goes into creating and running a podcast. The most important thing is to learn how to do everything yourself and then outsource the things that you don’t like and take you the most time. #podcasting #startuppodcast ------------------------------------------- 👋 Hi, I'm Eric Melchor and I interview fascinating European startups on my podcast Innovators Can Laugh.

When we shift the thinking from cost inputs to thinking about the strategic imperative of said podcast is when arguably more is gained. You could pay someone two or five times as much as your 'assistance' example and produce much more in all areas. For individuals starting shows I can see it differently, but for B2B or B2C comps arguably the least important thing is to learn how to do everything yourself, and rather devote most all of your time to being a tremendous host who is ready to be positioned as an industry expert because of the podcasts' engaging conversations with industry pros. This is what we call the "Halo Effect" - where a businesses' recognition scales when they stand alongside big players and podcasting is a cheat code to do so, tastefully. $15 bucks for a pod page? or $1000 bucks for a three page podcast website that let's you bolster podcast and main brand SEO, enables you to scale retargeting from podcast > main audience, just as an example. It's all about what you want to do.. your strategic imperative. What you list are just cost inputs highlight the "tactical initiative" and I get that's the point of the post but what's missing for many in the early phases is the strategery of the show.
